Cookie Policy

This page lists every cookie SpeakUp Gym sets, what each one is for and how long it lasts. It is a complete list, not a representative sample.
The short version: a few cookies are needed to keep you signed in and cannot be turned off. Everything else is optional and off until you say otherwise.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on the next visit. It is how a site remembers that you are signed in rather than asking on every page.
2. Essential cookies
These make the service work. They cannot be switched off, because without them you cannot sign in or stay signed in, and there is no version of SpeakUp Gym that functions without them.

Why the referral cookie counts as essential. It is only set when you deliberately follow somebody's invite link. Crediting that person is the thing you asked for by clicking it, so the cookie delivers a service you requested rather than tracking you across the web. It is not used for advertising, it is not shared, and it holds nothing but a referral code.
3. Analytics cookies
Optional, and off unless you allow them. Analytics tell us which rooms get used, how many sessions start and where people give up during sign-up, so we know what to fix. It is our own analytics, running on our own servers. No advertising network is involved and nothing is sold.

If you decline, nothing is recorded. The events are dropped at our server before they are written.
4. Performance cookies
Optional, and off unless you allow them. These help us spot slow pages and errors. They record how something performed, not who you are or what you said.
5. Marketing cookies
We do not use any. There are no advertising pixels, no remarketing tags, no social media trackers and no data brokers on this service. We have deliberately not put a Marketing toggle on the banner, because a switch that governs nothing teaches people their choices do not matter.
6. Third-party cookies
The providers that run parts of the service may set cookies of their own when you interact with them. The two you can encounter are our authentication provider, when you sign in, and our payment provider, when you are on their hosted checkout page. Their cookies are governed by their own policies, and we do not read them.
7. Things stored on your device that are not cookies
Some preferences are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie. These never leave your device and are never sent to us: your theme, larger-text and reduced-motion settings, whether you have seen the practice-room introduction, your self-recording toggle, and a cached copy of your own profile so the app can paint instantly. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.
8. Changing your choice
You can change your mind whenever you like, and withdrawing permission is as easy as giving it. Open Settings, or return to this page, and choose again. A change applies from that moment: optional cookies stop being used straight away.
9. Browser controls
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies from its settings, usually under Privacy. Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and prevent you signing back in, which is a limitation of how sign-in works rather than a choice we made.

10. How we record your choice
When you choose, two things happen. Your decision is written to the sg-consent cookie in your browser, which is what actually governs whether optional cookies run. We also keep a record on our side of which categories you allowed, which version of this policy was on screen at the time, and when. That record exists because the law asks us to be able to demonstrate consent, and a cookie sitting on your device is not something we can produce later.
That record holds no more than the categories, the policy version, a timestamp and your browser's user agent. It does not contain the contents of any page you visited.
